Donald Trump has called Boris Johnson “the right man to do the job” in the first meeting between the US President and Johnson since he became the UK prime minister.
The meeting took place on Sunday morning at the G7 summit in Biarritz.
Trump also repeated his commitment to signing a “very big trade deal” with the UK once it leaves the EU. Boris Johnson agreed that the two countries will conclude a “fantastic trade agreement once the obstacles are removed.”
Trump also claimed that none of his allies had reproached him for escalating his trade war with China, despite criticism the day before Emmanuel Macron. “No, what [China] has done is outrageous. nobody would tell me that, ” Trump said, as financial markets fell after the announcement of new US taxes on Chinese products.
The US president also announced that the United States was “very close”to a “major” trade agreement with Japan on which the two countries have been working for five months.
Just before his breakfast with the British, Donald Trump defended his economic and commercial policy and welcomed the good atmosphere of the summit of Biarritz.
“Before my arrival in France, the fake media said that relations with the other six G7 countries were very tense and that the summit would be a disaster “but “we have very good meetings, the leaders get along well and our country is going very well,” he said.
From August 24 to August 26, talks between world leaders in the glamorous coastal resort town in the south west of France will address the ongoing trade war between the United States and China, the Iran nuclear deal and the civil unrest in Hong Kong.
